Insecure Writers Support Group - October

Thank you Alex http://www.alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com for creating The Insecure Writer's Support Group. I really need it this month. I don't think it's because I'm insecure, although ya never know with me. I think it's because I'm super excited that my debut novel, The Wishing Steps is due out on October 31. I won't say that I don't have anxiety about it. I do. But I think the excitement is overriding the anxiety.

I think writers always worry about what others will think of what they wrote. In this case, I really have to let go of that because I am so sure I was called to write this book because of the way the story came to me.

I'm not going to share that story here today because I'll be posting on several other blogs all during the month of October sharing parts of that story. But suffice it to say, the journey from the time I heard a voice in Scotland ask me to tell its story, to now, when the story is about to be released into the world, became a deep and profound spiritual one for me. One I am deeply grateful for.

Now's the time for you to leave your insecurity behind you and stride forward with confidence that your book deserves. Sure there will always people who don't like something we've done, but we need to listen to and be lifted by the positive voices who do like what we do and are willing to support us.

The anxiety is natural, but the excitement should override all of that. I think you're on a mission with your story and a lot of folks out there are interested in what you have to say about it.

LOVE your cover, Karen!! Once I got over the trauma of knowing my mom read the love scenes in my first book, I haven't put much weight on what others thought. Good reviews are nice and so are positive comments, but there's always someone out there who just doesn't get you, so I've learned to let it roll off.

If you didn't feel nervous or anxious you wouldn't be human. You're normal and you're experiencing normal, human emotions. You will get through this and you will excel. Stephanie, I guess there might be some things that are as exciting, but not many. It is such a major accomplishment to finish a book and then to see it as a physical reality - sigh!
