Our nation's capital

I grew up in NYC. As a child, I spent time in Connecticut and New Jersey, because we had relatives there, but I'd only been to Washington DC one time and that was in the 1970s when I participated in a march. And since I am not a very political person and certainly never want this blog to be about politics, I am not mentioning what the march was for (or against). It's not the purpose of this post.

What is the purpose is to share how moved I was by visiting our nation's capital. I have always loved history, particularly European history and culture. But it wasn't until I was standing at the Lincoln Memorial that I truly got, deep inside my bones, how very lucky we are to live in this country. The whole reason our country exists is so that we could have the freedoms we have today, freedoms we take for granted. In the American History museum, artifacts from the Civil Rights movement remind me that it wasn't so long ago that all of our citizens didn't have the same rights and freedoms. Those had to be fought for.

I will be writing more about this trip and what it meant to me, but for today I'll leave it here with these few photos.

Telling the Truth Tuesday - I'm back!!

Hello dear blogging buddies,

I just returned from a trip back East to Washington DC and Baltimore, MD. I began taking thyroid meds before I left and just a few short days later, I was feeling much better. I am still a bit concerned about the A-fib issue, but hoping it was actually the wonky thyroid causing that problem. We'll see...
In the meantime, I am so ready to get back to my daily routine, my normal food consumption, and my writing. Vacations are great, but it's also so nice to come home. I will have some cool photos to post as soon as I catch up with mail and bills and grocery shopping and laundry and.... you get the idea.
I will catch up with all of you over the next few days.

Health Issues: On blocation

Hi everyone
Thanks for stopping by. I'll taking a short break from blogging. I was recently diagnosed with atrial fibrilation (irregular heart rhythm) and a wonky thyroid. I will be taking some time off to wrap my mind around this latest little setback. I'm handling it just fine, but I feel a need to pull inward for a time. Be back in a few weeks. Till then, be well.

Insecure Writer's Support Group - June

First of all, thank you, Alex http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com for creating this forum for writers to share their angst, their successes, their joys, their struggles. I am in the throes of going through my novel (my first attempt at fiction writing) line by line and trying to "show" not "tell." It is a torturous process for me, as I am a nonfiction writer by trade. The negative voice inside me says, "Ha ha, you think you're a writer. If you were a real writer, this would be a piece of cake." Then the voice of Spirit/wisdom says, "No, all writers struggle with some aspect or other in writing. You can do it."

Well, there's doing it and there's doing it well. That remains to be seen...

Telling the Truth Tuesday: on vacation

I'll be taking a short vacation from blogging -  after Wednesday's Insecure Writer's Support Group. We're off to Washington DC and Baltimore for a family visit and some sightseeing. Despite growing up in NYC, I have never spent time in our nation's capital and I'm looking forward to seeing the memorials, The Smithsonian, etc. Catch up with all of you when we return. Monday Musings: It's official - I'm losing it!!!

I was sure I had written a post pre-scheduled for today. Nope. I tell you, this aging business is really starting to get to me, although it really does beat the alternative. It was a stressful week due to a pesky health issue I'm trying to wrap my mind around. That caused me to do things like not confirm appointments, scaring an elderly friend unnecessarily that something happened to me. And thinking I've done something when I haven't - like this blog post.

So, my musing for today is that I must stop, ground myself, do some deep breathing, and get myself back to spiritual, physical and emotional center.
